Annabelle Traves - Concertmaster
Annabelle Traves has just completed Grade 12 at St Margaret’s Anglican Girls School in Brisbane as a scholarship recipient where she was Prefect, Music Captain and Strings Captain. While at school Annabelle was also on Scholarship at the Sydney Conservatorium to attend the Open Academy Rising Stars Program where she began studying with her teacher Associate Professor Alice Waten. This year Annabelle was awarded The Ted and Susan Meller Memorial Scholarship to attend The University of Sydney’s Conservatorium as well as being the recipient of the Music Scholarship to attend The Women’s College within The University of Sydney.
Last year Annabelle toured Europe as a soloist and concertmaster of the St Margaret’s Chamber Strings. While on tour she competed in the Llangollen International Music Festival in Wales, a competition which attracts over 4000 international competitors, and was awarded first place in the Under 18 Instrumental Solo Section. In 2013 she won the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra Prize for Most Outstanding Baroque Performance judged by its Artistic Director, Mr Paul Dyer AO and earlier last year won the 4MBS Instrumental Solo Prize at the Brisbane Eisteddfod.
Annabelle loves to perform and at age 13 was invited to perform the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto with the Queensland Youth Symphony by their conductor Mr John Curro AM MBE. At age 14, Annabelle was the youngest member of the Australian Youth Orchestra, the Queensland Youth Symphony and the Tagiev Chamber Orchestra with whom she played as soloist in Shanghai, Spain, Estonia, The Sydney Opera House and at Carnegie Hall in New York. She was also a semi- finalist in the popular Australian tv show, Australia’s Got Talent.
Annabelle has been privileged to have been invited to perform as a recitalist for the Royal College of Surgeons, the Queensland Law Society, the Bar Association of Queensland, St John’s Cathedral and the Breast Cancer Association of Queensland.
